of Mozart.

|
Wednesday September 8: Salzburg, Austria

a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The afternoon is at your leisure until we gather for
a welcome reception this evening.

|
Thursday September 9: Golf at Am Mondsee Golf Club
Located just outside of Salzburg, Mondsee sits underneath the white-faced Dragonwall
Mountain and along the shores of Lake Drachensee, one of the region’s 70 lakes.Mondsee’s
final four holes are routed around thelake and are a stern test of both skill and
nerve. Our tour takes us through breathtaking scenery with majestic mountains, crystal
blue lakes and charming towns. We visit the church in Mondsee, which was the scene
for the wedding in “The Sound of Music,” before continuing on to St. Gilgen for
lunch.
|
Friday September 10: Passau, Germany
Today we have the opportunity to explore the lovely town of Salzburg before departing
for Passau where we board River Cloud II. Later we enjoy a welcome dinner
on our glorious host vessel.
|
Saturday September 11: Golf at Brunnwies Golf Course
The peaceful hills and farmland of Bavaria provide an ideal setting for golf. Designed
by Bernhard Langer, Brunnwies is one of six golf courses that comprise the Hartl
Golf Resort. The setting exudes charm with endless views of the forests and farmlands
of Lower Bavaria, along with a farm-style clubhouse that serves a beer once brewed
by monks from the nearby Aldersbach Monastery. Touring passengers explore the town
of Passau, once referred to as the "Venice of Bavaria". We visit the 15th-century
St. Stephen’s Cathedral, home to the largest church organ in Europe.
|
|
|
Sunday September 12: Melk, Austria
Golfers take a well-deserved rest today as River Cloud II cruises through the Wachau
Valley, considered one of the most beautiful and historic parts of Austria. We stop
at Melk and tour the famous Abbey. Built in 1089, the Abbey is located on a cliff
overlooking the Danube and is still used today by Benedictine monks. Later on the
River Cloud II sun deck we are treated to a special barbecue paired with wines from
a local vineyard.
|
Monday September 13: Golf at Colony Club Gutenhof
Located just south of Vienna is Austria’s first 36-hole golf club—Colony Club Gutenhof.
The East Course is set among century-old forests and winding streams. Golfers will
have to negotiate numerous water hazards and well-placed bunkers to score well at
Gutenhof. This morning our tour begins with a drive around the Ringstrasse, one
of the grandest boulevards in Europe. We see the Hofburg complex, the former Emperor’s
residence and a vivid reminder of the glory of the Habsburg Empire. We continue
to the 12th-century St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Vienna’s most recognized landmark.
This afternoon there is time for individual exploration of this romantic city. This
evening a private concert is planned to allow you to sample the music of some of
Austria’s most notable composers.
|
Tuesday September 14: Golf at Fontana Golf Club, Vienna
Fontana Golf Club opened in 1997 and quickly established itself as one of the best,
if not the best, golf course in Austria. The bent grass greens and airways are superbly
maintained, adding to the enjoyment of playing this fine course, which hosts the
European Tour’s Austrian Open. Those touring visit Schönbrunn Palace, residence
of the Habsburg emperors from the 18th century until 1918. Here, the six-year-old
Mozart played for Empress Maria Theresa in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace.
|
|
|
Wednesday September 15: Vienna, Austria
We observe unparalleled harmony between rider and horse today as we attend a rehearsal
of the Spanish Riding School. This is the only institution in the world to have
practiced the Renaissance tradition of Lipizzan horse riding for over 430 years.
Here we are treated to the natural beauty of the way a horse moves and the highest
levels of haute école.
|
Thursday September 16: Golf at Pannonia Golf & Country Club
We venture into the Hungarian countryside to Pannonia Golf & Country Club. Over
180 years ago, this site was a country home for the Habsburgs. Nestled in the beautiful
Máriavölgy Valley, Pannonia has a links feel and fits seamlessly into the natural
terrain of the Hungarian countryside. Doug Carrick designed this course; which features
generous fairways, deep bunkers and imaginatively shaped greens. River Cloud II
docks in the heart of Budapest—often referred to as the "Paris of the East". Our
tour travels a short distance north of the city to the island of Szentendre, situated
in the middle of the Danube Bend. An artist’s colony was established here in 1920
and today this charming island town is home to dozens of galleries, cafés and museums.
|
Friday September 17: Budapest, Hungary
Our day is devoted to exploring Budapest. We discover the city’s historic past with
visits to the Castle Hill District, Parliament and Heroes Square. For those seeking
a true "local experience", there will be an opportunity to stroll through the City
Market. Our farewell dinner is on board River Cloud II with the spectacular sight
of Budapest at night as a backdrop.
|
Saturday September 18: Budapest, Hungary • Home
We bid farewell to the captain and his crew as we begin transfers this morning for
homebound flights or you may wish to join us on the Prague Extension Tour.
|
|
|
PRAGUE EXTENSION TOUR (September 18-21, 2010)
Steeped in history and rich in culture, Prague has a long artistic tradition and
some of the finest architecture in the world. Fortunately this capital city survived
both the socialist era and WWII relatively unscathed. This four-day extension begins
with a flight from Budapest to Prague.
One round of golf is planned at Karlstejn
Golf Club. Located in the rolling hills outside of Prague, this course quickly received
international recognition after hosting the Czech Open. All passengers enjoy tours
of St. Vitus Cathedral, Tyn Church, the Old Town Square and Astronomical Clock,
as well as Hradcany Castle, the official residence of the President of the Czech
Republic.
